A downloadable game for Windows

A first-person fantasy RPG in the spirit of Morrowind, built from chunky voxels. You arrive in Twinwater, a fishing village where two rivers meet, with goblins raiding the farms, a missing fur trader, a wolf the hunters call the Old Grey, an abandoned mine where the dead have started walking, and a village full of people with their own business.

Elderath is designed with single-player in mind first, but allows online co-op. Your world loads at the press of a button, and friends can join you online with an invite code.

Early development: Elderath is in active development (version 0.1). It currently holds one region, Twinwater and its wilds, with a dungeon, a shrine and a handful of quests. More of the world will be added in updates.

Your character, your way

  • Four races (human, elf, dwarf, half-orc), each with its own bonuses and height, and looks you choose: skin, hair, beard and face
  • Seven attributes and 32 skills. Name your own class and pick six major class skills and six minor class skills
  • Skills improve by using them. Swing a sword to get better with swords, sneak to get stealthier, haggle to become a better trader
  • Levelling comes mostly from quests, finding new places and raising skills, a little from combat. Spend level-ups on attributes, and learning points on trainers
  • Optional hardcore mode

Combat

  • Chop, slash or thrust depending on how you move. Each style has its own strengths: thrusts reach further, slashes cleave, chops stagger
  • Hold to draw back a heavier blow, block with good timing to parry, and watch your stamina
  • Bows, crossbows and throwing knives with real arrow drop. Arrows can be recovered from walls and bodies
  • Sneak up on enemies who haven't noticed you for devastating sneak attacks
  • Light, medium and heavy armour, shields. Weapons and armour wear with use: keep them in repair with a hammer and your Armourer skill, or pay the smith

Deep, Morrowind-style magic

  • Six schools of magic and 81 spell effects, from fireballs and lightning to levitation, water walking, mark and recall, summoning and charming people
  • Make your own spells from effects you know
  • Diseases, poisons, resistances, reflection and spell absorption

Living in the world

  • Talk to everyone: branching dialogue, rumours, persuasion (admire, intimidate, taunt, bribe) and people who remember how you treat them
  • 14 factions to join and rise through, with ranks, reputation and rivalries
  • Shops that keep their own hours, with haggling, trainers and spell merchants
  • Villagers keep daily routines: they work, gather in the tavern in the evening and sleep at home. Doors lock at night
  • Day and night, rain, fog, storms with lightning, and wind in the trees

Thieves and outlaws welcome

  • Sneaking, pickpocketing, lockpicking and disarming traps
  • Steal in sight of someone and you'll have a bounty and guards to answer to: pay the fine, go to jail, or resist

Everything else

  • Alchemy from herbs you gather, cooking over fires and a fishing minigame with a dozen fish to find
  • Gather and craft: mine ore, fell trees, smelt and smith weapons and armour, fletch bows and arrows, tan hides and make leather armour
  • Climbing and swimming
  • Random events: travellers, thieves and ambushes on the road
  • An soundtrack that follows what you're doing, from quiet village days to battle
  • Optional multiplayer: friends join your world over the internet, with text chat and proximity voice chat

WHAT'S IN THIS VERSION

  • Twinwater: the village, its farm, smithy, tavern and shrine, and the wild ground around it (woods, a canyon and plateau, a hunting meadow, a bandit hideout, a goblin camp and an old watchtower)
  • The Goblin Warren, a dungeon of seven caverns under the ridge, ending with a goblin chieftain
  • Blackdeep Mine, an abandoned iron mine where the dead miners and their foreman have risen
  • 12 quests, 57 characters and creatures, 58 ready-made spells and over 210 items

Elderath is a work in progress. Feedback and bug reports are very welcome.
